I run away from minor health complaints because I’m scared of spending money we don’t have on medication.
I run away from minor health complaints because I’m scared they could turn into something bigger.
I run away from a hostile environment with my child so that he doesn’t get hurt again.
I run away from a hostile environment with my child because I can’t face the confrontation.
I run away from confrontation because the anxious thoughts in my head give me chest pains and so lord knows what confrontation would do to me.
I run away from confrontation because I’m protecting my dignity, my well-being, my happiness.
I run away from a job if I cock up and see no way out.
I run away from a job because the pressures on my family of my going to work are greater than the benefits of me working.
Whoever said there’s strength in facing your problems head-on was either the most mentally strong person on this planet, or defined problems differently to the rest of us. You don’t have to face demons, worries, people, if they’re the things keeping you awake at night. If you have a way of avoiding something – not prolonging, but straight up avoiding – then take the detour. Protect yourself, your sanity, your mental and physical health, and the people you love. Like it or not, sometimes staying strong means running away.
